beaded mardi gras corsets

In 2022 I joined the marching krewe of the Divas: a downtown walking krewe. The group parades annually on the Friday before Mardi Gras wearing corsets tediously bejeweled with plastic beads. In 2024 I ditched the hot glue and began hand stitching my corsets with traditional glass beads and cotton stays. I am inspired to push carnival costuming beyond single wear items. In this work I explore my relationship to my own body, repetition, womanhood, and performance.

Each corset takes between 125 + 200 hours of stitching. While the pieces shown are a part of my private collection, I am open to commission.
