Ladyfingers, 2022

Reclaimed Yarns and Driftwood from the Mississippi, Swivel Hardware and Fishing Line for suspension.

5 sculptural branches, measuring from 4.5 to 20 ft in length.

Scavenging material sustainably and playfully catalyzes my sculptural work. Hundreds of skeins of yarn were thrifted for Lady Fingers. Forgotten crochet hooks and unfinished projects were tucked inside the rolls. Visualizing the hands of those who selected and handled this yarn helped me to mourn my grandmothers, both of whom passed within a year of each other. Lady Fingers is hard and soft, heavy yet floating - an act of intentionally obtuse domesticity. Vibrant, and towering in spite of a society that asks women to shrink.  5 sculptural branches were created for this exhibition, all but the largest one (measuring 20 ft in length) are held in private collection.
